Palestinian Teacher's Day
This Saturday was Palestinian Teacher’s Day. Under the patronage of Bishop Dr. Sani Ibrahim Azar, teachers from the four Lutheran Schools and Mahaba nursery and pre-school gathered at Talitha Kumi for a special afternoon honoring their hard work, especially throughout the incredibly difficult circumstances of the last two years.
The event was organized by the ELCJHL Education Office, represented by Education Director Eva Azar. It has been many years since we have had teachers from all our schools gathered for this special day, and we are so grateful for the wonderful fellowship.
The day began with the annual teacher’s volleyball tournament. Talitha Kumi took first place, with ELS Beit Sahour in second and Evangelical Lutheran School of Hope in Ramallah in third place. The tournament was followed by bingo, special games, gifts, and lunch.
As we recognize Palestinian Teacher’s Day this year, our hearts are still with the teachers in Gaza. We remember those who have been killed and we express solidarity with those who are working to continue education for their students despite being displaced from homes and classrooms. We hope the coming year will bring a time of rebuilding and true peace.
